Winchester is one of England’s most delightfully unspoilt and medieval-feeling cities. It was King Alfred the Great’s capital of Wessex before the Norman conquest but maintained its powerful historic position after 1066. It clusters around a marvellous cathedral but also offers King Arthur’s “Round Table”, its castle and historic Winchester College. Throw in some excellent shopping, good hotels and great old pubs and this is a brilliant short-break destination. This audio guide runs to 34 minutes.
