TRIER – Mosel – Germany

Trier is a city with a long history. It was founded by the Romans and the old Black Gate – the Porta Nigra still stands. There are fine remains of palaces and basilicas and a Baroque Cathedral. This was also where Karl Marx the communist thinker was born – although you won’t see much sign of Communism is thriving Germany these days. Trier would make a great base for visiting the wine country of the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer river valleys.
