Munich is southern Germany’s capital city and also the capital of Bavaria. It’s eleganty and lively with a strong cultural scene. Of course there are all the beer halls to visit and the Beerfest in October every year, but you’ll probably have more fun eating and drinking in the city when it’s not gone mad during Oktoberfest ! Visit the BMW car company museum. The Allianz stadium is home to football club Bayern Munich and tickets are not hard for tourists to get hold of. A very short hop away is Augsburg founded 15 BC. In 1276 it became an Imperial Free city. It’s a great centre for arts and was visited by Protestant reformer Martin Luther. The Fugger and Welser banking and trading families who established Europe’s banking industry came from Augsburg. It’s also an official “Mozart city”. The sixteenth century “Fuggerei” is one of world’s first almshouse communities with charming, medieval remote control door opening !
