CAEN – Normandy

Caen is the cradle of the Norman invasion of England in 1066. It was William the Bastard, Duke of Normandy’s base. It’s castle still dominates the city but there’s a lot more on offer – the two Abbeys William built and other fine churches. Plus a classy modern art museum, a pleasure port and stylish old entertainment districts. You can even sail your yacht into the heart of the city – or if you don’t have one – you can take pleasure boat trips downstream to Pegasus Bridge, which was the first place in Europe to be liberated from the Nazis in 1944.
